21 Things for iPads - Thing 19

Research and Reference

Citations Artifact

This app is super easy to use, as long as you know exactly what the name of the book is and how to spell all the words correctly. The scan feature does make it easier, however thinking back to when I did my masters, I did most of my research on line and didn't have the books in my hands to scan which would make it a litle more time consumming to use the app, but still less time time consumming then figuring out how to write it on my own and then typing in the information! A feature that would make this app even better would be to be able to search by author, or other written formats (newspapers, magazies, journal articles, etc.)

Recommend a Dictionary App Artifact

I personally preferred the Merriam-Webster Dictionary app. It allowed me to clearly see the defintions of  the words. I felt like the Dictionary.com apps color schemes took away from the visual ease of reading the definitions. The ads on both apps are there, but in M-W app they were at the bottom instead of mixed in the reading screen like Dictionary.com's app. In both apps the search with imicrophone feature was easy to use, but with Dictionary.com you have to remembeer to tap the start button and in a large noise room, Dictionary.com had a difficult time hearing just the word I was looking up. I did like how easy the language translate feature was in the Dictionary.com app was. I think I will leave both apps on my iPad, the Dictionary.com app for the translate feature and the Merriam-Webster app for the ease of looking up and reading definitions.

Diigo Browser Artifact
I will admit before I even start this artifiact, I am a Pinaholic and I am a Google Chrome snob...it would be near impossible to replace those two websites and apps in my life!!!

I have an Android phone with Chrome as my search engine, and the Pinterest app downloaded, on my iPad I use Chrome instead of Safari. I have the Pin It option on my desktop, laptop, iPad and phone. While using Diigo, all I kept thinking was, I don't get this browser, I LOVE my Chrome!!!
But I gave it a try and while I don't love it, I do love what it does! I am constantly saving useful websites to my Pinterest account, be it recipes, school related, home improvements, etc. I am always pinning. There are so many benefits of having all my websites in one place, I can access them through my phone, iPad, desktop, someone elses phone. As long as I have the internet, I can see my saved information. When I use to write websites down on paper, it never failed, I would swich a letter, loose the paper, forget what the site was for. It was not an ideal way to use the internet at all. With online recording I don't have to worry about any of those issues any more.
