These boys created a short screencast showing students how to determine a fractions equivalent number.
Fractions on a Number Line - Educreations
This teacher created a lengthy screencast showing student show to determine equivalent fractions as well as look at fractions on a number line to compare sizes.
The boy's screencast was very plain, just handwriting black on a white screen. The teacher included several diagrams, marking up different fractions as she went along. For the simplistic thinking child the boys video would be more effective, but for those students who are visual and need to see what each fraction looks like the teachers was more effective.
As a teacher this type of app would be very beneficial for those students who are continually absent or pulled out of class for service time during math lessons. I could also see it being helpful to create screencasts and then post them to a classroom blog, website or test out a link to parents to see the screencast to better help their students with their homework at home. I could also see myself using it to assign students to creat their own to teach others how to do a skill, but again with only one iPad in the classroom, time on the iPad would be an issue.
Create a Screencast Artifact
I would use this screencast for students who missed the original lesson, those who needed a review of what we had learned the day prior or to send home to parents to refer to when assisting their child with homework, after the students had already had the lesson instruction in school. I think this will be a very handy tool to use in the classroom, however in struggled with being able to find the quiet time to be able to record my screencast. If you listen closely you will hear my son yelling for me in the background. I see the benefit of the Screencasting, just feel I will struggle with the time piece to create them for my classroom.
Have you ever created a screencast before? You seem to be a natural at it. Great work.
ReplyDeletePerhaps creating a screencast can be viewed as an investment; if you create a good one, it can be used over and over.
Would you consider having students create screencasts for them to show what they know?
