I have used this app in the past. My kids love to create their own shows. I also used it last year with my Young 5 students
Here is an example of a video done by students:

My daughter and I had fun with this app. We played around with a lot of different options and ultimately decided it was easiest to record a video with the Apple built in camera app, and then import it into Videolicious, moving the pictures through as the imported video played. We learned that it was the easiest and quickest way to re-record when there was a mistake made. For recording and edit videos, I will admit, I prefer my Android devices.
Reflection for Thing 7
Both of these apps are wonderful apps. With the Puppets Pals app, I do own the upgraded versions, making it possible to use my own photos to create characters, but you are still locked into using a preset background, limiting what your story can be about. With Videolicious, you can use your own pictures, voice, and sounds, making the possibilities endless. For my current Third Graders, I could see using Videolicious for them to create an oral report about new information they have learned. I would also like to use it to create an introduction video of myself and our classroom to share with parents prior to open house next year or with those parents who were unable to attend. I think getting more "visiting" options for our parents will be helpful I keeping them up to date with what's going on in our classroom, especially since almost all of them have a Twitter, Facebook or access to the internet option on their smart phone.

Thanks for sharing the excellent media and production tips! You've pointed out some valid pros and cons that go with some of the tools, as well as good ideas for student use.
ReplyDeleteMany people feel iMovie is one of the better video editing apps for iPad, but it costs $5, and the creators wanted to keep the focus on free apps.
If you have upgraded to the "Director's Pass" version of Puppet Pals, you can add your own backgrounds when you get to the "Choose Backdrops" option screen. Click the rectangular button that reads, "Add backdrop from photo."
